The story

Care, courage and a second chance

Little Lola was orphaned when a truck hit and killed her mother near Mackay. She then made a nine-hour journey for specialist treatment for bruised lungs.

Lola arrived weighing only 340 grams. Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital treated her bruised lungs before she returned to care and began the long work of growing stronger.

She quickly became known for being wonderfully chatty. By December 2025, she was confidently demanding her daily bottle and moving closer to weaning.

The next chapter

Lola eventually travelled home to her rescue region for release—a full-circle moment for one very determined little joey.
